100° Berlin is back again! And one could almost change the Festival’s name to "200° Berlin", with its nearly 200 productions and more than 1,200 participants who are present this year. Germany’s largest free theatre scene becomes active to present big and small theatre works and performances in a showcase to the own colleagues, a vast audience, the critics and organisers. That’s why Sophiensæle, HAU and – as a new venue – the Theaterdiscounter not only put their stages at disposal, but also each tiny niche they got. Be it staircases, cloakrooms, toilets, shuttle-busses or even outdoor spots – there will be theatre in each space in front of and behind the stage. The general conditions apply for everyone: half an hour for setting up the stage, one hour for the performance. The programme offers a wide variety of classical theatre, live art and video performances, installations, acrobatics and a display of complete works.

The artists present this time – among many others – are Dagmar Bedur with "Kiezgeflüster", a musical revue on the Stephankiez with neighbours from Moabit; Kim Hartwich – as one of the six students from the acting school eti – who presents "Yvonne, die Burgunderprinzessin" ("Yvona, Princess of Burgundia"); Katrin Hylla with her performance on hallucinogens "ALTE PILZE oder 10 Gründe, warum man mich nicht lieben kann"; Marcus Reinhardt, who retells the film "Was gibt’s Neues, Pussy?" ("What’s new, Pussycat?") with lots of wine; Nicole Gabriele Schöpfer, who makes a stock-taking of life by means of a list; Sarah Lewis and Priscilla Be with a collection of monologues and dialogues about male fear; Sophie Hüsler, who resuscitates the most famous female pirates with "Fluch der Karibik" ("Pirates of the Caribbean 3") at the Foyer HAU 1; Manfred Olek Witt, who swims across the Landwehrkanal in his performance "Mao schwimmt" – as a historical reference and current link to the swimming competitions in China nowadays – perhaps recommended for imitation? And last but not least there is Kathrin Veser, organiser of 100° in 2005, whose installation "Renate rennt" gives insight into the concept of 100°.

Moreover "old acquaintances" of HAU will be present: Hotel Europa, the public’s favourite in 2006, again reflect on the relationship between biography and scenic self-fashioning with "Dreams are my reality". Christiane Hitzemann lines up with the play "Pay to Play", where the number of actors is optimised towards zero, in accordance with the motto "theatre is optimised through economy". Raumlabor Berlin’s Benjamin Foerster-Baldenius presents in his outdoor-installation "Der Sternenschleifer" the resounding planetarium in a caravan and shows a universe, which in each case is being composed by means of a local narration. Martin Clausen takes the audience on a stroll across minor and exterior spaces of HAU, and in so doing reflects on the "Freiheit, die ich lieber nicht meine" ("The freedom which I prefer not to mean"). The Prime Time Theater from the district of Wedding with "The best of – Gutes Wedding, Schlechtes Wedding", as well as Patrick Wengenroth with a new edition of "Planet Porno" will definitely be among the highlights. Again, we look forward to Yvette Coetzee, das Helmi, Jannis Klasing, Lukas Matthaei, Volker Gehrling, and many more. We are happy that Theaterdiscounter Berlin Mitte, Theater unterm Dach and Ballhaus Ost will participate with several productions, that students of UdK and Ernst-Busch-Schule will show some of their plays, that there are works produced only for 100°, and so much else…

As in every year several venues, production directors, established artists and cultural workers can be consulted for advice. The daily midnight-speakers will talk about their festival impressions, and also in this year there will be an audience award for the best performances. But in 2007, for the first time, there will be a jury composed of young theatre experts – having already acquired experiences with students’ festivals – to choose the three best works at the Sophiensæle, at HAU and at the Theaterdiscounter. In April these productions will be shown again by including them into the regular programme of these three theatres. Furthermore a total of six flight tickets will be handed over to the winners of the audience awards.
As in previous years the upcoming edition of 100° offers the possibility, from early evening until cold February morning, to get into contact with artists and producers, to find the partner for life or to get radically drunk.
As a closure to the festival, CITIZEN FEVER will play at HAU 2 on Sunday evening from 11 p.m. onwards. Since May 2001 CITIZEN FEVER have played rock music in the broadest sense. In their versatile songs they combine competently hid pop, noise and a wild soundtrack-style. Intensity, songwriting and sound exceed their ego. The opening party of 100° takes place at the Sophiensæle on February 1st.
