Shame, Shame, Shame!

25 Years of She She Pop

“There aren’t many ensembles with which one can age as well as with She She Pop,” writes Eva Behrendt in her artist portrait. The originally all-female performance collective, founded during their studies at the legendary Institute for Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen, has by now become a part of theatre history. HAU Hebbel am Ufer is dedicating its season opening to this special anniversary, showing, now really for the very last time, “Testament”, the She She Pop classic with their fathers, as well as the current HAU co-production “Oratorium”, which critically illuminates the question of (private) property, borrowing from the Brechtian Lehrstück. The crowning finale will be the big birthday gala, “Shame, Shame, Shame!”. She She Pop write: “We invite everyone who has been suspiciously eyeing us over the years or even just discovered us, who has played games with us or dance dwith us, who went after us with blunt objects, wore our costumes or drank alcohol with us, who have turned red in shame along with us or have cried alone in the dark auditorium. We will put on a gala, we’ll need to borrow your shoes to drink from, and we’ll dance with you to our anthems: ‘Shame, shame, shame, sha-ay-ame, shame on you! / if you can't dance, too!’
