Constanza Macras, born in Buenos Aires, studied dance in Buenos Aires, in Amsterdam and at the Merce Cunningham Studios in New York. In 2003, together with dramaturge Carmen Mehnert, she founded the interdisciplinary ensemble Dorky Park in Berlin and has created 25 works since. They have been invited to festivals such as Festival d’Avignon, Wiener Festwochen, Seoul Performing Arts Festival, Buenos Aires International Festival, Santiago a Mil in Chile and Dance Umbrella Johannesburg. For her bold choreographies mixing dance styles and cultural influences she has received multiple prizes: the Goethe-Institut Award for “Hell on Earth” in 2008, the Faust Prize in the category Best Choreography for “Megalopolis” and the Arts at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) William L. Abramowitz Residency in 2010. Most recently she was awarded the Tabori Preis, the most recognized award for the independent performing arts scene in Germany, and she created the choreography for the 2018 film “The Favourite”. Macras has been a guest at Tanz im August three times since 2002 and premiered her work “Chatsworth” at the festival in 2018.
