Jérôme Bel

Biography

Jérôme Bel was born in Montpellier in 1964 in Montpellier. He lives in Paris and works worldwide. Since 1994 he has been developing choreographies, for example “Jérôme Bel” (1995), “Shirtology” (1997), “The last performance” (1998), “Xavier le Roy” (2000), “The show must go on” (2001), “Véronique Doisneau” (2004) on invitation of the Paris Opera Ballet, “Pichet Klunchun and myself” (2005) and “Cédric Andrieux““(2009). In 2010, working with Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, he created “3Abschied“ (2010) based on Gustav Mahler’s “Das Lied von der Erde“. “Disabled Theater“ (2012) is a dance piece made with Theater HORA in Zurich, which works with professional disabled actors. This HAU co-production has been invited to dOCUMENTA (13) and the Berlin Theatertreffen in 2013. In addition, filmed versions of his stage works have been shown at biennales of contemporary art (Lyon, Porto Alegre, Tirana) and in museums (Centre Georges Pompidou, Hayward Gallery and Tate Modern, MoMA | Museum of Modern Art). Jérôme Bel’s latest work “Gala“, also a HAU co-production, was shown for the first time in Germany at HAU shortly after its premiere at the Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels.
