Nuray Demir

Biography

Nuray Demir is an artist and curator in the fields of visual, performing, and performative arts. Her practice is characterized by an exploratory and radically transdisciplinary approach. In her projects, she collaborates with people from various fields, with whom she forms temporary ensembles. She is particularly concerned with debates and concepts of feminist and postcolonial theory. Nuray Demir’s work comprises in-depth critiques of social exclusion and complex hierarchical relationships. In raising disruptive artistic questions and counterpositions on vision, imagination, and empowerment, she forges space for social equality. She has realized projects at major institutions, such as HAU Hebbel am Ufer, HKW, and the Wiener Festwochen. Since 2019, she has been part of the artistic management team of District * Schule ohne Zentrum. She also applies her creative approaches in teaching, inter alia at Berlin University of the Arts and Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin.
