Racism has penetrated all of the structures within our society. In the public debate, however, the search for a solution continues to take place only on an individual basis. Unfortunately, it will not be until we understand the structural dimensions of racism that we will be able to develop promising measures to work against it.

This video work by composer and saxophonist Bendik Giske was shot by renowned filmmaker Matt Lambert at HAU Hebbel am Ufer. Filmed in a single take on 16mm film, “Brist” sounds out the abandoned structure of HAU1, as the camera follows Giske’s movement between the public and backstage areas of the theatre.
