In the week of the Jewish Holiday Shavu’ot, Ariel Efraim Ashbel and friends present an event inspired by the medieval tradition of “the Tikkun”. Hebrew for “amending” or “correcting”, it describes in the context of this holiday the tradition of studying the Torah for a whole night.

Ashbel and friends’ version of the Tikkun is the latest step in an ongoing series of performances stemming from rituals of the Jewish calendar that the group has been developing over the last years. In this night-long-happening, streamed live at HAU4, they will discuss this holy day, study, play music, make images and host guests remotely: Michal Govrin, Isabel Lewis, Adam Linder, Susan McClary, Assaf Shelleg, Sarah Thom, Senthuran Varatharajah, amongst others.

Unfolding over eight hours from dusk till dawn, they will address the main issues at the heart of Shavu’ot: the receiving of the ten commandments by Moses, the book of Ruth and the idea of the harvest. Thoughts, bodies, traditions, images, sounds will create a tapestry of emerging performative contemplations.
