Benny Claessens / CAMPO

Hello useless – for W and friends

  • Theatre
English /  70 min.

Known in the German theatre scene as one of the main actors at the Munich Kammerspiele under the direction of Johan Simons, Benny Claessens has begun to realise unique works of his own. Last year, HAU Hebbel am Ufer presented his “Spectacular Lightshows of Which U Don’t See the Effect” with Risto Kübar. His new performance is a solo about a standstill. About breathing in deeply and taking the time to see things more clearly. It is an attempt to go against having to find meaning in everything. Without words, without structure. Only seeing and hearing, and recombining the things that we seem to be in agreement about. Only from a different perspective. “Hello useless – for W and friends” is a radical return to the basics. At once honest and intimate, exuberant and ecstatic, Claessens takes things out of context, simply presents them to you, and proposes other options. Without criticizing, denouncing or making statements. Thereby he gives the audience space to watch, reflect, feel and see for themselves.
