El Conde de Torrefiel

Incisive, brilliant and unconventional: The theatre of El Conde de Torrefiel has made quite a splash internationally in the last few years. The tragicomic works of Tanya Beyeler and Pablo Gisbert reveal a series of absurd tableaux vivant, flanked by words of incredible clarity. The newest piece “LA PLAZA” offers up an impressionistic landscape that sees public space as a reduced model of today’s world, shaped with the help of light, sound and an ethereal, ghostly aesthetic. The Plaza stands for a site where people converge with history, collective memories and an unknown future. In a world that is rapidly overtaking itself, reality becomes more and more subjective, emotionally charged and impenetrable. A constant conflict reigns between the longing for the new and the fear of the unknown. It has long been one of humanity’s great aspirations to get some idea about our unpredictable future. Telling stories about this search is the passion of El Conde de Torrefiel.
