Laurent Chétouane

50 min.

In his final string quartet, Beethoven left behind the ruins of a music that could no longer be held together by any compositional logic. He found the power of renewal in the interplay with the rhythm provided by the death drive: the absolute end. In “End/Dance” (AT) the dancer Léonard Engel, supported by Beethoven’s gesture and the live music, transforms his joy in breaking apart forms into a choreographic process that turns the body into a free-floating remnant after the end of dance, making it available for something new.
