Memory Culture in Germany: How to Remember for the Future?

At the outset of the shiny days of action

With Alexander Karschnia, Sasha Marianna Salzmann, Florian Schneider, Nora Sternfeld a.o.

German /  approx. 90-120 min.

DIE VIELEN are calling for “shiny days of action” on 8 and 9 May, 2020, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the liberation from the Nazi Regime and the end of the Second World War and proclaim an open Europe of the Many on the annual Europe Day, the following day. In accordance with Esther Bejarano, chairperson of the German Auschwitz Committee, the days of action are being linked to a campaign calling for the declaration of 8 May as a legal holiday in all of Germany. To kick off the “shiny days of action” HAU Hebbel am Ufer along with DIE VIELEN invite everyone to a discussion about the culture of remembrance in Germany: How to remember for the future? What might a politics of memory look like for a diverse Germany? How can this be linked to building up a broad anti-fascism in Europe, one that would do justice to migration and the politics of refugees?
