#HAUonline has been an integral part of HAU Hebbel am Ufer since March. Over the course of the next several months, in cooperation with Christiane Hütter and the dgtl fmnsm collective, the subject of research will be the present and future of a theater of many spaces – digital, analog and hybrid.

1. Online Hackathon

The first step will be an online hackathon (hacking + marathon), taking place from 11–13 September, aimed at developing a utopian theater of the future. Over the two and a half days, concepts for projects and prototypes will be created in new configurations. There will be collective meetings, with interdisciplinary teams forming at will, and ideas will be shared with one another.

Host: Christiane Hütter
Input from: Victoria Kure-Wu & Ilona Stuetz and Holger Dietrich

3. Residencies

The residencies are the third step of the digital laboratory. Over a three-week period during the respective months of October, November and December 2020, each selected team will continue their project. Throughout this time, at their disposal will be HAU3 along with basic technical equipment to develop for digital and performance aspects.

dgtl fmnsm will accompany the residence participants as mentors. Since 2016, the interdisciplinary collective has been using online and offline formats to explore the virtual potentials within contemporary performing arts, imagining what a theater of the future might look like in digitalized societies. In their programs, projects and interventions – most recently at HAU and the Hellerau European Centre for the Arts – dgtl fmnsm have been gathering feminist, queer and tech-positive perspectives, constantly experimenting as a means to eschew expectations and norms. Artistic residencies online and offline are an essential part of its collaborative work.

A collective closing will follow the residencies.
