GRAECOMANIA 200 years

  • Theatre
German /  100min

Germans have had a soft spot for Greece for a very long time. In the 1820s thousands of Germans voluntarily moved to Greece to fight for the cause of the Hellenes. Today Kos and Lesbos are no longer symbols of tourism but are the first arrival points on European territory for refugees. Debts, Grexit, billions in loans – these are the keywords. But what was that again about reparation payments? The army’s war crimes in Greece are gladly glossed over in Germany. The German soldier Erhart Kästner was on site at the time and wrote a hiking guide to Crete that remained a cult object for every German tourist to the area as late as the 1970s.

Hans-Werner Kroesinger and Regine Dura deal with money, cash flow, German-Greek history and Attic democracy. What do the labours of Heracles have to do with the IMF?
