Przemek Kamiński

Sunrise Sunset

  • Dance
English /  Language no problem /  approx. 50 min.

In his first HAU co-production, the choreographer Przemek Kamiński departs from the scattered archival materials revolving around the life and work of American dancer and choreographer Fred Herko. A member of Judson Dance Theater and frequenter of Andy Warhol’s Factory, he famously ended his life by jumping out of the window during a performance in an apartment in New York. Performed by Martin Hansen and Kamiński himself, “Sunrise Sunset” goes back to Herko’s incomplete archive and appears as an impressionistic portrait of his life, work, collaborations, and affinities. Through movement, sound, set, light and video, it draws a speculative horizon on which different materials and accounts by his friends and collaborators are brought to life, extended and reimagined. “Sunrise Sunset” revisits Herko’s queer utopian spirit of the unfinished, the too-late and the not-yet-there, all between sunrise and sunset – a stretch of radiant glow.
