Von Spar / Eiko Ishibashi / Marker Starling

“Under Pressure” is the fifth album by the Cologne collective Von Spar, and that makes perfect sense. The title refers to the hit by Queen and David Bowie and underscores that even in the band’s 15th year there can hardly be found any anachronisms or repetitions in their oeuvre. Rather, their subtle understanding of pop in the universal sense skilfully spins electronic, Kraut, minimal, and post-rock into a music for the zeitgeist. This is also reflected in the eclectic selection of guest musicians that fill the vocal vacancy on “Under Pressure”: from lo-fi antihero R. Stevie Moore, Flying Lizard’s Vivien Goldman, Stereolab’s Laetitia Sadier and classic melancholic Chris Cummings to multi-instrumentalist and singer Eiko Ishibashi. Ishibashi and Cummings (aka Marker Starling) will each begin the evening in HAU2 with a concert, Ishibashi in a trio, Cummings solo, before they – exclusive for the Berlin appearance – join Von Spar for their appearance.
