What lies beneath the red carpet that we roll out, in Africa and across the world, for the powerful and the mighty? Nadia Beugré illuminates the world “down below”, taking the audience on a journey populated by images that we often do not want to see, and that we carefully hold at a distance. “Tapis rouge” attempts to get to what lies hidden beneath this fabric. Influenced by an encounter with women and children sacrificing themselves in the mines of Burkina Faso, the choreographer speaks, through her dance, of the brutality to which seemingly invisible groups are often subjected.
