Golden Hours (As you like it)

  • Dance
140min

The Flemish choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker is considered one of the most influential innovators in contemporary dance. She and her company Rosas last appeared at HAU with the production “Verklärte Nacht”, and now they are bringing their new piece “Golden Hours (As you like it)”. The twin title uncovers a theater play in a dance: a meeting between Brian Eno’s album “Another Green World” and Shakespeare’s queer comedy “As You Like It,” a play about an idyllic golden world of the Forest of Arden into which lovers flee from a corrupt court.

For this performance, De Keersmaeker explores a cast of eleven young dancers sparking their idiosyncratic movement expressions. If “repetition is a form of change”, as Brian Eno once said, then the obsessive turning around “Golden Hours” breeds queer relations of gesture and dance either in dialogue or concert. A colorful outburst of dancing and music-making in charming do-it-yourself arrangements.

Production: Rosas. Coproduction: De Munt / La Monnaie, Kaaitheater (Brussels), Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg, Théâtre de la Ville (Paris), Sadler’s Wells (London), Steirischer Herbst, Opéra de Lille, Ruhrtriennale, Concertgebouw Brugge and Festival Montpellier Danse 2015. Supported by Flemish Community.
