Remaining Strangers

As the culmination of her long research into historical and contemporary notions of ‘the stranger’ Simone Aughterlony continues her exploration through the particular social practices and phenomena that arise in the reception of the stranger. Xenia, a Greek concept which refers to the stranger/host relation, and its most sought counterpart Xenophilia, a love of the unknown, guide the conceptual and affective lens through which the performance “Remaining Strangers” unfolds. Folding chairs in constant rearrangement suggest a locality and momentary belonging until we realize the resources are becoming few and largely repurposed. Especially now, how can we consider the place we are without the binds of ownership? How can we land back to something that was never ours yet simply held us for an epoch of time? With the simple means of party chairs and microphones, the performers Jen Rosenblit and Nic Lloyd, joined by musician Hahn Rowe prepare an ever-shifting event for their guests.
