Hans-Jürgen Syberberg

Für Heiner Müller

Part of the festival HEINER MÜLLER!

After 25 years, Hans-Jürgen Syberberg is now returning to the Hebbel-Theater, HAU1, transforming the space into a walk-in installation. His starting point is Heiner Müller’s play about land reform in the GDR, “The Resettler Woman or Life in the Country”, which was censored after its premiere in 1961. Syberberg juxtaposes Müller’s text with his hometown Nossendorf in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, from the dispossession of his parents’ property to its end in the Agricultural Production Cooperative. He does this from the current perspective of having reacquired the house and farm (reflected on the diary website www.syberberg.de).  Mixed in among all this, and running parallel to Heiner Müller’s play, are Syberberg’s monologues with Edith Clever, “Die Nacht” (“The Night”, 1984) “Ein Traum, was sonst” (“A Dream, What Else”, 1990). Two versions of history after 1945 in the theatre of the East and West in the country.
