Taoufiq Izeddiou

Botero in Orient

  • Dance

Inspired by Fernando Botero’s work with his typical round figures, the choreographer Taoufiq Izeddiou brings to the stage an ensemble of bodies beyond the norm in dance. Like in a tableau by Botero they unite and thereby fluster us and create a beautiful, rough and sometimes fragile setting. In a less known image series, Botero dealt with his dismay when faced with the tortures of the prisoners of Abu Ghraib. Next to the questioning of norms, the denunciation of oppression, humiliation and torture will play a role in Izeddiou’s “Botero in Orient”. After a residence, HAU will present a preview of his new work before the premiere in Paris.
