Béla Pintér

Biography

Béla Pintér (*1970) is a writer, actor and director. He began his career in 1987 as an actor with the group Arvisura. In 1998 at the Szkéné Theatre at the TU Budapest Pintér founded his own company PBEST, which has won the Hungarian critics prize for best independent theatre production of the year four times. For many years he has been working with his ensemble, developing with them a special working method, with a particular focus on the history and cultural traditions of Hungary. This is combined with observations on the current political situation. Among his many plays, “Parasztopera” (“Peasant Opera” “) and “Roncsolt Kópia” (“Scratched Celluloid”) have especially garnered international attention. His play “Szutyok” (“Muck”) has been widely performed, including at the Berlin Festspiele and at Zurich’s Theater Spektakel. After the German-language premiere of “Our Secrets” at HAU Hebbel am Ufer, the play will also be shown at the Vienna Festwochen in May 2014.
