Frank Willens

Biography

The native Californian Frank Willens has been living and working in Berlin since 2003. He discovered dance at UC Berkely, and has been working on a variety of productions ever since, including: two world tours with Paul McCartney, Notre Dame de Paris on stage in Las Vegas, and here in Berlin, productions with Meg Stuart/Damaged Goods, Laurent Chétouane and Willhelm Groener. In summer 2012 he headed Tino Sehgal's work "this Variation" at the documenta (13) and was also part of "Yet Untitled" at the Biennale in Venice. In 2008 he was awarded Best Actor at the Dortmund Favoriten Festival for his solo in “Bildbeschreibung von Heiner Müller;” in 2011 he received a grant from the Berlin Senate to conduct performative research on the streets of San Francisco. In 2013 he danced in Tino Sehgal’s “(ohne Titel)”, which was premiered at HAU Hebbel am Ufer as part of Tanz im August.
