Jean-Luc Nancy

Biography

Jean-Luc Nancy, born in 1940, is professor emeritus for philosophy at the Université Marc Bloch in Strasbourg and teaches political philosophy and media aesthetics at the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee. He has been a guest professor in Berkeley, Berlin, Irvine and San Diego. Nancy is one of the leading contemporary philosophers and one of the most significant exponents of deconstruction. He is concerned with questions of politics, ethics, religion and aesthetics. His diverse oeuvre includes works on the ontology of community, sense and the body as well as on a deconstruction of Christianity. He has written numerous texts on aesthetics and the arts, in particular on contemporary film, dance and theatre.
