LASTESIS

Biography

LASTESIS are a feminist performance collective from Valparaíso, Chile, founded by Daffne Valdés Vargas, Paula Cometa Stange, Lea Cáceres Díaz and Sibila Sotomayor Van Rysseghem. They use the tools of performance to deal with questions of sexualised violence, transferring feminist theories into a multimedia format.

With “Un violador en tu camino” (“A Rapist in Your Path”), the feminist performance collective LASTESIS ignited a literal movement that has reached far beyond the borders of Chile. Thousands of women and queers in cities around the globe have been inspired to take streets themselves to perform the choreography, a statement of resistance against sexualised violence.

After LASTESIS had already been at HAU in March 2020 for a workshop and a joint conversation, the collective was in Berlin again in 2021 with their performance “Resistencia o la Reivindicación de un Derecho Colectivo / Resistance or the Claiming of a Collective Right” to enter into a joint working process with 30 women and queers of various backgrounds.
