Santiago Blaum

Biography

Santiago Blaum studied piano and music theory from the time he was ten years old. Literature studies at the Universidad de Buenos Aires, opera singing. He founded the group Torquato Tasso Beauty Performer (Buenos Aires 2000-2002). In 2003 he began collaborating with the Theatercompagnie Lubricat at the sophiensaele, where he took part in projects as a musician and performer. In 2004 he co-founded the music/performance group AZUKITA with Tatiana Saphir and Min Ko, with whom he has regularly appeared in Buenos Aires, and since 2008 also in Berlin. In the same year he co-founded the music/performance duo PIK NIK with the actress Markéta Richterová. Since 2008 he has been collaborating with Constanza Macras/Dorky Park: composition and music performance for “Hell on Earth” (HAU1, Berlin) and “Megalopolis” (2010, Schaubühne Berlin). In 2009 compositions for the short film “Postcards from Berlin” by the choreographer Jo Parkes (mobile dance/beBerlin) and for the performances “Action” (Nir de Volff, Neue Synagoge Berlin) and “Lady Tehran” by the Iranian director Ayat Najafi (Ballhaus Ost, Berlin). Directorial work at HAU Hebbel am Ufer “Switch On” in co-production with Hellerau Dresden. In 2011 “Schlittenfahrt Tropicana” (Manifesto for the Foundation of the Cumbia Opera) and composition and musical direction for Constanza Macras’s “You are here” and “Here/After.”. The last Project at HAU was “Nietzsche Contra Wagner” in April 2013.
