Sustainability

HAU Hebbel am Ufer sees itself as a learning institution: in addition to our efforts to become more diverse and inclusive, i.e. to promote the social sustainability of our theatre, we are constantly working to become more ecologically sustainable.

The Sustainability Working Group and our person in charge of Sustainability and Climate, who was trained as a Transformation Manager for Sustainable Culture in 2022, support the management in this endeavour. In 2023, a sustainability training day was held for the entire HAU team.

HAU is a member of the Aktionsnetzwerk Nachhaltigkeit (Sustainability Action Network), has twice been invited to the Forum Ecological Sustainability in the Theatre by Theatertreffen and is involved in the German Federal Cultural Foundation's “Fonds Zero” project.

As a member of the Alliance of International Production Houses and the associated sustainability working group, we are committed to adhering to the jointly developed travel policy from January 2024. From January 2024, every trip will be checked, approved and documented in accordance with these rules. Authorisations are based on distance, means of transport and length of stay.

We have been balancing our greenhouse gas emissions since 2019 and deriving measures to reduce them, which we are constantly implementing.
