Fortune Telling / Stunts / Magic

Part of "Be Part of Something Bigger"

Performance

ongoing

Be Part of Something Bigger wants to create small magical moments that highlight the preciousness of the here and now. Stuntmen, a magician and a fortune teller will appear in various spaces of HAU1. Their presence is holding the promise that there is more to this than meets the eye. They offer possibilities of another way, an adventure and a glimpse of a different future… At the same time, their activities keep defining the roles of those involved differently – protagonist and spectator, individual and group constantly fluctuate.
Fortune Telling with Stela Mišković

Subversive affirmation is an artistic performance that overemphasizes prevailing ideologies and thereby calls them into question. Simultaneously with affirmation, the affirmed concepts are revealed, and artists distance themselves from those concepts. Strategies of subversive affirmation include over identification, yes revolution and paradoxical intervention.

Bearing in mind how subversive affirmation combines art with activism, I have pondered both on what moves, motivates, and inspires artists, as well as what hinders us, and I believe that the hindrance is rooted in that very neoliberal mentality which has been labeling those artists that are directly or indirectly financed by governmental funds as parasites whose art has no value and cannot be sold.

The artist Stela Mišković chose to become a fortune teller in 2012 as part of a subversive affirmation workshop: Both fields require knowledge of psychology and character of a person, insight into their motives, as well as the ability to tell a good story in order to achieve success.

You will find Stela wandering around in the foyers of HAU1. Or she will find you…
Stunts by an with mazzotti action

mazzotti action’s founder Alister Mazzotti and his team have coordinated and performed stunts and special effects for numerous feature films, including Hansel & Gretel: Witchhunters, Harry Potter - Halfblood Prince, V for Vendetta, Das Leben der Anderen, The Pianist. Alister was nominated for the Taurus World Stunt Award in 2012 for the action design of One Way Trip - 3D. Since 1994 he choreographs fights and slapsticks for plays, musicals and operas throughout Europe.
Magic with Axel Hecklau

Axel Hecklau is a magician - one who understands his crafts. He creates illusions right under your nose tip or even IN the hands of the spectator.
To play with the human mind and to paint impossible pictures into the heads of his audience, already fascinated him throughout his entire life.
This creates a wonderful but seldom perceived feeling - childlike wonder. Time and place of the experience are undefined. Let yourself be surprised.
