75 Jahre Grundgesetz

The Basic Law was passed 75 years ago as a reaction to the state terror of the Nazi era. It guaranteed comprehensive fundamental freedoms, human dignity, a constitutional state, and democracy. Under the impression of “never again”, it was intended not least to prevent a renewed self-abolition of democracy and the undermining of human rights and freedoms. In view of the increasing illiberal and authoritarian dangers, Ralf Michaels, director of the Max Planck Institue for comparative and international private law and Margarita Tsomou, curator for theory and discourse at HAU, invite lawyers and experts to discuss the potential of the Basic Law to meet today's challenges in the future.
