Orpheus in der Oberwelt: Eine Schlepperoper. Live Audio Drama

  • Music
  • Performance
approx. 1 hour

Orpheus, the mythological singer, returns from the realm of the dead as a luckless human smuggler. This live audio drama provocatively combines current political events with the mythical and musical dimension of the Orpheus legend in the form of a concert. This “Smuggler’s Opera” sings of that figure that is only featured as a criminal in news reports today, but that was glorified during the Cold War as helping refugees.

The theatre play had its premiere at HAU Hebbel am Ufer in 2014, the radio version was produced by WDR in spring 2015, was radio drama of the month and won the Prix Europa as best radio drama 2015.
