Black Bismarck

Theatre

At the invitation of Otto von Bismarck, the so-called “Congo Conference” took place at the Reichskanzlerpalais in 1884/85. Random borders were drawn throughout the African continent, most of which exist to this day, leading to frequent conflicts in the region. This date also marks the beginning of the thirty-year German colonial rule in the areas now known as Togo, Cameroon, Namibia, Tanzania, Burundi, and Rwanda. Population displacement, land grabs, plundering of resources, forced labour, war, and genocide were the consequences. The Berlin collective andcompany&Co. examines this history, localizing its presence in contemporary Berlin and interweaving the results into a fast-paced performance. What now, white man?
