karadeniz

  • Performance
  • Dance
approx. 60 min.

“karadeniz” engages with the theatricality of wedding practices from Turkey as rituals, as both hetero- and homonormative social institutions, and staged events with choreographed sequences and traditional dances from Turkey, such as the Halay or the Zeybek. Queering the figure of the “Köçek”, the androgynous belly dancer who is infamous for their sex work histories, caner teker interweaves these references from a diasporic stance. As a temporary community, we will translate, refashion and rework labour, affinity politics and rituals.
