Daniel Léveillé

Solitudes Solo

  • Tanz im August

Daniel Léveillé, one of the pioneers and original protagonists of the Quebec dance scene, often works with almost impossible choreographic scores for naked bodies that challenge both dancers and audiences. In Solitudes Solo he examines being alone and loneliness with five dancers to the accompaniment of music by Bach. The solos are brilliant studies of the disturbing beauty and fragility of the human body and its physical and spiritual capabilities. Even though the dancers are now clothed, they seem to be stripped bare, and only the most essential gestures remain to capture the beauty and pain of the human condition. And though the solos deal with desire and longing, there is little room for seductiveness or pleasure. But the impact is emotional, and has a lasting effect on the body of the viewer.
