Fearless Speech #4 / Reconsidering Foucault

Foucault, Bourdieu and the Prison Boom since "Discipline and Punish"

Part of the HAU event series “Fearless Speech”

Dialogue

English /  ca. 90 min.

Was Foucault right with his history of the late invention of the prison and the consequent extension of the logic of prisons to other areas as described in “Discipline and Punish: The Birth of the Prison”? The French sociologist Loïc Wacquant will analyse the incredible expansion and the changing modalities of incarceration in order to sketch out a model of the global boom of the punitive state in the era of neoliberalism.
