Physical Introduction to "Siena" on 23.8. starting at 16:00 - all booked!

From cities to pieces. Moscow (2011), Copenhagen (2012), Portland (2013), Siena (2013). Spanish choreographer Marcos Morau and his virtuoso 10-strong ensemble La Veronal, who have yet to be discovered in Germany, possess an undeniable talent for making dramatic performances out of geographical regions along with their past, their culture, their ghosts.

Here the italian city of Siena is a concrete place, a deserted night-time museum. The pictures on the walls begin to glow, and a team of fencers appears. They dance, playing with bodies and art history. A guard ensures order in a space without rules. The ambiguity is heightened by Italian pop songs and operatic arias, Hitchcock music and an obscure soundtrack. The idiosyncratic dance vocabulary is supple and flowing, acrobatic and imbued with humour. La Veronal creates an incomparably strange, gloomy world.

After studying choreography in Barcelona, Valencia and New York, Marcos Morau founded the collective La Veronal in 2005 together with artists working in dance, film, photography or literature. Since then he has received awards and acclamation in Spain and beyond, and choreographed for leading ensembles including the National Dance Company of Spain and the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen.
