May Zarhy

1325

  • Tanz im August

With 1325 May Zarhy, a founding member of the group Mamaza, has created a new work in collaboration with the American dancer Kathryn Enright. The two brilliant performers discover their common desire to ‘simply dance’ – in an endless masquerade of changing faces and bodies, sometimes playful and naive, sometimes virtuosic and energetic, morphing between minimalism and rich denseness. Their intention was to find a form for what their dancing bodies know, and to do this without irony or becoming overtly intellectual. Here the dancer and her own experience take centre stage.

1325 derives from one's possibility to imagine. It unfolds the obvious in ways that reveal unexpected, exciting potentials. Zarhy and Enright navigate through various musical landscapes, cultural influences and personal artefacts, while never insisting on a hierarchy of form or style.
