With the panel discussion between Sophie Lewis, Eva von Redecker and Eleonora Roldán Mendivil in February, HAU Hebbel am Ufer has already begun to think beyond the idealised concept of the family. Emilia Roig's publication “Das Ende der Ehe: Für eine Revolution der Liebe” (The End of Marriage: For a Revolution of Love) now takes centre stage as a continuation of this round of talks. In her book, the political scientist, non-fiction author and activist calls for an end to the patriarchal institution of marriage, which is romanticised and mythicised as the epitome of love. During the event, authors Emilia Roig and Lia Becker, the artist and sex worker Sadie Lune and others will discuss overcoming patriarchal family structures in favour of an expanded perspective on the democratisation of love, social reproduction and care work.

“Ecosexercise” – a video work by Annie Sprinkle and Beth Stephens, performed by Sadie Lune
The participatory workout “Ecosexercise” brings the ecosexual movement to HAU. In 2008, Beth Stephens and Annie Sprinkle married the earth. When it comes to saving the planet, the two argue, eros and love are more powerful – and more fun – than fear. The first wedding was followed by others: a blue wedding with the sky, a purple wedding with the moon, a white wedding with the snow and many more. “Ecosexercise” explores the question of how we relate to each other and how we want to connect with our environment.

“The T in Matrimony”: A stand-up performance by Naya de Souza aka Lux Venérea
Lux Venérea waits as a bride at the altar in a stand-up performance that will get you “engaged” in a ceremony of trans love, laughter and divorce. But love ain’t just love: It’s an institution. For Lux, if you like it “then you shoulda put a ring on it”, or at least an Aufenthaltserlaubnis. Like love at first sight, Lux’s captivating charisma and politically charged jokes will take on a comedic analysis about love, matrimony and most of all: Patrimony.
