Das Stück mit der Zweckmäßigkeitsfrage

Part of the Newcomers Platform of the Performing Arts Festival Berlin

Theatre

Behind every private project, we are shocked to realize, a much larger project lies hidden, so private that it’s even secret – and it follows an unnamed purpose. But how to make it visible, how to pin down its authors, put a stop to its agents?

At the height of the debt crisis came “Das Stück mit der Zweckmäßigkeitsfrage”, a theatrical essay about the purpose and purposelessness of art and economy. It is an exercise in demeanour for artist and audience alike, and an odyssey in which the creators of the project invent a detective and investigate into their own affairs. Like Robinson Crusoe, they are stranded on a desert island, ultimately asking themselves: How do we actually get out of this mess?
