Wen Hui

Being Able to Act for Yourself

Workshop for women over 50

  • Workshop
English /  approx. 120 mins.

An abundance of family care work often cause us to disregard the connection to our bodies. Choreographer and filmmaker Wen Hui has long been concerned with the institutional control and oppression of the female body. In doing so, she explores the body as a storehouse and archive of individual memory and the traces that social life leaves behind in it. A central object of research for Wen Hui is her own body, which she also explores in the process of ageing.

In the workshop, Wen Hui invites women aged 50 and over to discover their bodies as archives and to adopt new approaches to their own experiences in which individual biographies have overlapped with social contexts. Wen Hui guides the participants through simple physical exercises to create a space in which the infinitely powerful memories stored in every body can be utilised as a strategy for self-reflection. Looking back at the past can also reveal possibilities for our own futures.
