Berlin bleibt! #5

26.6.–4.7.2026 / HAU2, HAU4 and throughout the city

The “Berlin bleibt!” festival is taking place at HAU for the fifth time. Yet the title stands in tension to reality: since the first edition in 2019, much in Berlin has not remained the same, but has disappeared, been replaced and displaced. In 2026, with “Nachbarschaften in Bewegung” (“Neighbourhoods in Motion”), HAU turns its attention to a city in flux – to shifts in urban space, questions of participation and exclusion, and how these changes are reflected in bodies and movements.

The neighbourhood around HAU is characterised by constant change: some construction projects have been completed, whilst others have begun. New buildings rise, whilst many older buildings remain unrenovated. Community-run businesses have had to close, and large chains are moving in. Amidst these shifts, “Berlin bleibt!” asks: How do we move through our neighbourhoods? Which encounters are made possible here, and which are prevented?

Over nine days, HAU presents an interdisciplinary programme that views the artistic appropriation of public space as a collective act of encounter and resistance.
