Roots and the Uncanny / Lecture with Music

  • Dialogue
  • Music
English /  approx. 60 minutes

“Although the association with Freud’s eponym text might appear evident, my main concern is rather of technical essence.“ The pianist, composer, and conductor Alain Franco says about his lecture accompanied by music.

Indeed, the historically assessed ambition to match music, language and semiotics constituted –ever since the idea of music inscription emerged – the cardinal procedures that irrigated the soil of composition. Therefore there is an oscillation that addresses knowledge, perspective and situation. So whenever we claim to analyse music we necessarily produce a neighbouring expression to it. But frankly: who would have ever believed that technique stood on its own?
