In the immediate aftermath of their father’s sudden passing, sisters Mariam and Nora must devise an elaborate scheme to get their hands on the money he left behind before their brother can stake his legal claim to it. The ensuing events, equal parts humorous and heartbreaking, foreground the severe gender inequality inscribed in inheritance law, and in Palestinian society at large.

“Thank You For Banking With Us” is Laila Abbas’ debut feature. It premiered in competition at the 2024 London Film Festival and subsequently won the Best Director award at El Gouna Film Festival in Egypt.
