In Hell with Jesus

If Ivo Dimchev is involved, you know it's going to be entertaining. For quite a few years now, the Bulgarian-born performer, singer, and visual artist has also been bringing heated nights of theatre to HAU Hebbel am Ufer with productions such as “ICure” (2015) and “Sculptures” (2019). In his works, Dimchev lets heaven and hell collide again and again, blurring the lines with his beguiling voice as well as his humorous portrayal of human inadequacy. “In Hell with Jesus” is a provocative song, dance, and quiz show with a profound social critique tucked behind it. In this parody of contemporary theatre, Dimchev presents himself as an ageing stage diva at an audition for his upcoming performance. He skilfully plays out his self-imposed power over the candidates and the audience, repeatedly asking them to interpret his songs and asking questions from his madly transgressive catalogue of questions. Humorous, intelligent and amusingly sarcastic.
