Das neue schwarze Denken – Chefferie

TheatrePerformance

about 100 min

For “Das neue schwarze Denken – Chefferie” Gintersdorfer/Klaßen have expanded their performance team to include artists from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and from Rwanda. The piece focuses on the concept of “chefferie” [chiefdom], a political and administrative unit that already existed before colonisation in sub-Saharan Africa. The idea of pan-Africanism seems universal, but it is an ambiguous concept that is introduced and recoded in different ways over and over again. The charismatic performers develop controversial interpretations and forms of representing an African self-image.
