What’s it like to be somewhere new and have no idea what to expect? “Startlevel” is an interactive theatre game about arriving in new worlds.
That feeling of being new. Everyone’s staring at me. What am I actually supposed to do here? And then the question: “Are you new here?” Aaaahhh. Yes!
What happens when you’re somewhere for the first time and have no idea how anything works? My first day at the museum. The first day at work. The first day in a world whose rules everyone else seems to already know.
Where do I need to go? What am I allowed to touch? Who can I ask? When do I have to pretend I know what’s going on? And how will I actually know that I’ve settled in?
Together with pupils from Hector-Peterson School, machina eX are creating an interactive theatre game about arriving in new worlds. It’s about discovering and inventing rules, and playing with experiences and expectations. The players become newcomers in a world unknown to them, where they try to figure out, as inconspicuously as possible, how everything actually works here.
