Prometheus Brought Fire

Prometheus, a figure from Greek mythology who brought fire to humanity, stands for progress and self-empowerment—but also for ambivalence and risk.
The internet, too, was shaped by a similar promise. In “Prometheus Brought Fire,” two exhibition visitors attempt to communicate with each other through a specially developed chatbot that intercepts their words and replaces them with spam, phishing scripts, and manipulative language drawn from the darker corners of the web.
What is intended as a tool for connection becomes a disruption: communication is distorted, interrupted, and undermined. Occasionally, something authentic breaks through. The visitors keep trying. The installation explores what happens to human connection when the technologies meant to enable it begin to control and undermine it.
