Die Weise von Liebe und Tod des Cornets Christoph Rilke

  • Dance
German /  With English surtitles /  approx. 60-70 minutes

For the Belgian choreographer and dancer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Rilke’s Cornet is an old love. Its musicality forms a starting point for her ongoing research into the counterpoint between dance and text, movement and speech: “I want to explore the intermediary space that Rilke’s text opens, the subtle nuances between breathing, speaking and singing, between the male and the female, the lyrical and the prosaic.” How does movement result out of breathe, noise, speech, and chant? In light of the words, De Keersmaeker has flutist Chryssi Dimitriou hiss, spit and snort Salvatore Sciarrino's music into her instrument, and she herself, along with dancer Michaël Pomero, takes care of the dance between the lines – highly sensual and yet precise, strict and clear.
