Queer Ping Pong combines table tennis, DJ sets, tournament matches and round-robin games (Cardio Ping Pong), a bit of a natter and a chance to hang out, creating an open, queer and participatory space. Here, people play, dance, cheer each other on and spend time together. Whether you’re at the table with a bat, on the dance floor or just relaxing on the sidelines: everyone is welcome, regardless of experience or skill level.
Two special DJs will be providing the music: Gudrun Gut, a leading figure in Berlin’s underground, post-punk and electronic music scenes, co-founder of Malaria! and founder of the Monika Enterprise label, as well as Diamin, the Chile-born, Berlin-based DJ and passionate record collector. Their sets range from new wave to psychedelic sounds, acid and experimental club music. There will also be a live concert by NYYA and a b2b by ᕲᑢ ᕲᖇᘿᗩ and Kasja.
MC Beyefendi, an award-winning drag king and member of Anatolian Nights Drag, and Camila Malenchini from Club de Baile will be hosting the tournament. With ambition, irony and charm, they’ll commentate on the matches, cheer on the players and take on the role of referees.
Six table tennis tables will be available: four for the tournament and two that will remain open throughout for free play and round-robin matches. Following a group warm-up session from 15:00 to 16:00, the tournament will begin at 16:00. Everyone is welcome to take part: no pressure to perform, just more fun.
