“I’ve never asked WHY this happened to me. Why me and my parents flew from Stuttgart to Crete 20 years ago to celebrate my A-levels. Why I jumped into the pool at the resort – head first, on the shallow end. That was the last movement that I could bring my body to make. Since then there has been nothing between us, from the shoulders on down. In the clinic they asked me whether or not I even wanted to go on living. I definitely wanted to. I keep my chin up cheerfully. I’m going to do this theatre play.”
