What happens when game design, digital technologies and interactive dramaturgy meet theatre education and drama lessons? The machina eX toolkit now offers methods and resources for developing and teaching theatre games on a comprehensive website.
For many years, the Berlin-based collective machina eX has been combining game mechanics, coding and interactive spaces with the tools of theatre. At toolkit.machinaex.de, this practice is now available for the first time to teachers, theatre educators and anyone else who is interested. The launch of the website will be celebrated on this day at HAU with a double event.
17:00 – Workshop “The machina eX toolkit in practice”: To mark the release, anyone interested can get hands-on experience of the toolkit. Using simple technical tools, participants will develop small game prototypes and test them on each other. The workshop is free of charge; no prior knowledge is required. Participants will work partly on their own smartphones. Maximum 15 places. Please register by 1.11.2026 at tickets@hebbel-am-ufer.de.
19:00 – Panel discussion “Games. Theatre. Education. Interactive formats in schools and workshops”: To mark the launch, three experts from the field will explore how tools and methods from game theatre can be usefully applied in theatre education, schools and youth work. The guests are the experts Lukas Müller (PhD candidate in post-digital theatre education, HBK Braunschweig) a.o. The discussion will be moderated by Carolin Gerlach.
