Fierce Foundations: International Ballroom Festival

3.-6.7. / HAU2

At the end of the season, HAU2 becomes the pulsating centre of the international ballroom scene. With workshops, panels, a conference and the Revolution Ball, the “Fierce Foundations” festival is committed to social justice and the visibility of BIPoC and queer communities and celebrates the diversity of ballroom culture with unrivalled energy.

At the end of the season, HAU2 will become the centre of the international ballroom scene: with “Fierce Foundations,” the House of St. Laurent, in cooperation with representatives of House Lives Matter (HLM), invites you to panels, the HLM Conference, workshops and the Revolution Ball. Founded in New York in 2016, the House Lives Matter initiative, which is now active nationwide, is committed to social justice, health promotion and education for BIPoC and queer people in the ballroom scene. With “Fierce Foundations,” this vision is being expanded internationally for the first time: the aim is to strengthen the exchange between HLM, ballroom stars, the community and interested parties – and to build new networks beyond the borders of the USA, thus enabling structural change within the scene.

The Community Workshop Day (3.7.) will kick things off with workshops by American ballroom icons and legends in the categories “Vogue Fem,” “European Runway” and “Face”.

The HLM Conference (4.+5.7.) aims to develop strategies together with HLM representatives to reinforce international networking and exchange within the ballroom community. The aim is to strengthen the structures of the houses, which act as elective families, in the long term.

The two “Beyond Ballroompanels (4.+5.7.) will provide insights into the culture and social significance of Ballroom. On two consecutive evenings, representatives of House Lives Matter and the international ballroom community will come together to discuss key topics such as community building, health education, leadership and education – aspects that are crucial to the self-image and structures of the ballroom scene.

The panels will be moderated by Tabytha Maison Margiela, a renowned activist from New York who campaigns for the rights of BIPoC transgender and queer communities.

The final event is the Revolution Ball (6.7.), the performative highlight of the festival. The ball creates a space for expression, creativity and empowerment and celebrates the diversity of the scene. With international judges and inspired by the previous days, the ball marks the end of Fierce Foundations and brings the unrivalled energy of ballroom culture to HAU.

While the “Beyond Ballroom” panels and the “Revolution Ball” are aimed at members of the ballroom scene as well as the general public, the HLM Conference and the Community Workshop Day are exclusively for the ballroom community. Registration via info@saintseurope.com is required.
